1 thought on “Does Nutanix have the concept of LUN?”

  1. Nutanix introduced the advantages of software definition data centers into the storage field. In the Nutanix cluster, all virtual storage controllers continue to communicate with each other. When a node fails, the cluster immediately takes action to return to the protection level before the node failure. Nutanix abandoned the traditional RAID group and Lun concept, and instead implemented data protection of the file system layer. This default protection mechanism is called copying cause 2 (Factor 2). It means that the data of each block is written on at least one other nodes in the cluster. If a node fails, these data are provided by other places in the cluster. Because all available nodes (CPUs, memory, SSD and HDD) are used to restore data, it only takes very little time to reconstruct.
